I won't go into any details because I don't know who might be reading this, but after my son's first day of USS he does not want to go back. He hadn't been in the water in 6 weeks (summer rec)and worked so hard (swam over 500 yards!) and did some of the best kicking (compared to the other kids with fins!).
I won't make him go back, but we now need to find a way to get him feeling good about what he HAS accomplished in swimming.
Anybody else, swimmers themselves for a long time, teach their own children to swim? We originally didn't want to, but we are now convinced that that is the best thing for our son. Help please :)
My son did not swim competitively when he was 5, and at 6, he had completed the entire lesson program at the Y, and I asked if he wanted to join team and it was an absolutely not, so we waited, and he joined at 7.5.....and broke my heart(because he was good) by quitting at 17.
Anyway, my kooky daughter wanted to join at 5, and I was against it, but she was stubborn and wanted to join. So she swam 2 days a week in pre-team, if you can call what she did siwmming. And she would swim 25 free,25 back and 25 *** in meets(*** because she just picked that up easily). And that humored her for awhile. Then she said, I want to swim 100 free in a meet, and I was against that. But she told the coach, the coach said sure. She dives in for her 100 free race, swims 75, and gets out. Luckily one of the older kids was at the end of the lane cheering for her, stopped her and sent her back to finish. Guess she was used to getting out at that end. She is still going at 12, who knows what she will do at 17. :)
So kids are funny, and they keep you guessing!
