Okay, I am doing pretty well at 500 yards - I am not winded or out of breath at the end of the workout.
My pool is closed for the next week and a half for cleaning (the whole YMCA shuts down).
When I go back, I was thinking about doing two 750 yard swims 6 days a week. How does this sound for fat burning and toning?
Good idea or not?

Stepping up the distance and the pace will take care of this problem. ...and it will burn calories too.
Be sure to find a variety in the workouts if going on your own.
Familiarity leads to boredom which can ruin any best intentioned routine.
