How many yards a practice do you swim?

I tried doing a search in the forums on this and couldn't find anything. I am curious to know how many yards people in Masters are swimming a practice. I swim on average 3000-4000 yards a practice, 3 times a week.

Me, I address fact A, late bloomer. Your 240 pounds, they are your irresponsability, you don't address them and that's being indecent. Ion, my body fat % is around 13%. not bad for a soon to be 39 year old male. now why would you think that my weight is irresponsible? should I hack of some limbs? maybe go on severe calorie depravation so I lose 60 lbs of lean body mass? would that make me "responsible"? My size is a fact, I can't change much of it. Now, do I get special points for my times? 2:10/2:15s, one after another, for 10x200 on 2:40?

See in swimming, when you finish the race, you are either the fastest, and assuming you swam legally, the winner, or you are not. You don't get to get out and argue with the officials that the results need to be changed to reflect the conditions/excuses that you started training later in life, that you ate too much for breakfast, or that your pinky toe got a cramp. Artie, you are more confused. It's not golf's handicap, it's knowing the conditions to deal with. It's given A, how to get to B, around A? For example, Artie, a truck driver driving on a slippery road minds about that road's condition.
  • I agree with Ion(can that be right) that it is often better to decrease yardage but increase intensity. It depends on what you want to swim. 50's are sprints,100's are controlled sprints and 200's are near sprints. If you are swimming 200 or less you get caught in the "Catch 22" that to an extent slow twitch endurance comes at the expence of fast twitch power. So increasing intensity(and lifting weights) can really drop your times for 200's and under.

The fact that you went almost 10 seconds faster this year and not 8 seconds slower is something you should be proud of. ... Exactly about being proud of going 10 seconds faster and not harping on the 8 seconds slower. When I went 2:39 in Cleveland, I didn't accept it, I have a lifetime best of 2:27.36, and moved to another program. It gave me 2:09.11, lifetime best in yards, and 2:29.85, fifth lifetime best. In 1994 I had a 2:09.54 in yards and 2:27.67, both in USMS, at Federal Way, and this year with a new best of 2:09.11 I was expecting better than 1994' 2:27.67, but I got 2:47. The 2:47 I cannot rationalize beyond work overtime and eating wrong, so I stay in the same program that gave me 2:09.11 and 2:29.85. Originally posted by Frank Thompson ... Again, the reason I made the statement was that you attacked Bill S with an outrageous statement "You can't do much about it, its in the genetics" which was uncalled for and he did not derserve that. That statement is full of sentiment and lacks supporting data. I made the same outrageous statement about your time in the nationals which did not lack data but was still uncalled for. When you make statements such as these, you are fair game for everyone here. See what I quoted BillS on, above. He is fair game for me to call on.

  • I usually swim between 3000-4500 yards. Anything over that usually leads to injuries or severe fatigue!!

The main difference between the guy in the article you cited and Ion is that Ion makes sure to insult as many people on this public forum as he can by making fun of thier times, intelligence level, hobbies, careers,...etc....Even people here who have tried to pay him compliments. Now add to this the fact that Ion has zero reasoning skills despite the fact that he claims to be a master of everything and to have an I.Q. that's somewhere around 7 or 8 standard deviations to the right of the mean......Basically he's a total head case in every sense of the word.....but yes, his swimming accomplishments do warrant appreciation and admiration considering his late bloomer status....and his work ethic is also admirable. Newmastersswimmer p.s. I'm not implying that you were necessarily making any comparison's between the guy in the article and Ion BTW....I just added that dimension to the story by myself.

The point I'm making is that every conversation on this board that Ion joins becomes the silliest conversation ever.....I'm just getting a little tired of it that's all. Newmastersswimmer
