How many yards a practice do you swim?

I tried doing a search in the forums on this and couldn't find anything. I am curious to know how many yards people in Masters are swimming a practice. I swim on average 3000-4000 yards a practice, 3 times a week.

I do between 3200 and 4400 a day. It is dependent of what I'm doing. Yesterday, I did Mel's tuesday workout. It had 6 10 minute swims. It was a lot of fun. If I'm doing an IM workout, it won't go so long. Sometimes, I get in throw out the workout & just swim until I can't swim any more. those are the best!

I try to get in 3600, 5 times per week. And an open water swim on the weekends (1 to 2 miles). Occasionally, I will break loose and swim up to 7000 yards.

Yeah....let's just say I'm hoping for 5-7,000 ;) But I'm not ruling out the possibility that it'll be more like 10 or 11.

We practiced in high school from 2 to 5:30. I recall swimming around 4 to 5,000 yards. Only in the Winter season. Now I am in a group with different abilities and physical fitness levels. We swim about 2,000 meters per day, on three days a week. The other days, I swim on my own, either a straight 1,000 or if I have the time, I'll swim about 4,000 meters doing sets of 100 freestyle. Eventually I'll do some fly sets. With my master's group I do what the coach tells us to do, including drills, which I hate. It all comes down to the hour limit of the class due to everyone working and having other activities. We swim in the early evening. billy fanstone (in Brazil)

There is such a thing as to much yardage. The body can only handel so much.

I just started swimming with an agegroup team in town..... and hopefully I will be swimming 4 days a week with them. I just started my first practice today which was 6600 yards. The coach said that they usually swim between 6000 and 8000 yards per workout. I am really excited to have this cool opportunity....and I have some good competition from a few 15 - 17 year old swimmers (Ande calls Wipper Snappers). Newmastersswimmer

I just jumped my work-out to around 5500 yrds or so this week. Wow, am I tired. Like Jim, I am also working out with an age group (and a few college kids) team. We are back to starting the morning workouts at 5:30 am. This summer the workouts started at 7am and I had to leave at 8 so I wasn't getting in the full work out (only about 3k). That last thousand has really been a killer this week. Some of those kids are serious workout warriors. They also practice in the evenings for another 4 to 5k. WOW! Hook'em Blue
