Are Triathletes worth the dues they pay toward Masters Swimming?
I say we force all Triathletes to spend one day a week in the sprint lane, one day a week doing stroke (i.e. IM) work, and then make them focus on their starts and turns.
This invasion needs to be controlled.... :-)

Goodness gracious alive. This thread is all over the map.
I am temporarily swimming with triathletes in a lake right now. Most all of them are poor swimmers. Most of them want and need help and have asked for it while I am here. They are aware their swimming is poor. Most of them do not have access to pools/coaches so they read books, watch videos, and it is trial and error. As a matter of fact, they have never had access to swim coaching.
I am giving a Swim Clinic this Saturday for all of them and will work on their stroke, body balance, not kicking so much, breathing patterns, beach starts, swimming in "groups" and anything else they want. And out of this entire group there is only one fella who thinks his swimming is fine, but he is coming anyway. I think many triathletes focus on running/cycling because there's not as much technique for these two disciplines. Swimming evades them and I think they just don't know how to improve. This group thinks that swimming 800 yards is all that needs to be done. A lot of their swim problem is just a lack of knowledge.
But I am privileged to have met this wonderful group of people; I was the "outsider" and the newbie. They have included me in all their group emails and sent me messages of faith when Hurricane Felix hit Honduras this week, 80 miles from Roatan, and I just met them last week.
A sense of superiority can run through anyone; a swimmer, athlete, triathelete. I kinda like not being special anymore. It sure is a lot more fun. A triathlete can swim with me anytime; they have a lot of hilarious stories to tell on top of it all.
