Are Triathletes worth the dues they pay toward Masters Swimming? I say we force all Triathletes to spend one day a week in the sprint lane, one day a week doing stroke (i.e. IM) work, and then make them focus on their starts and turns. This invasion needs to be controlled.... :-) John Smith :)

  • This is the start of my 3rd week swimming with the Kids team (SST) in town, rather than the Masters(mostly Tri's) and I can already see a difference in my ability to sprint, something that I used to be good at. We do much more kicking, drill work and variety. I also have to do timed swims at the end of atleast one practice per week and I have tied or beaten my times thus far, from a push. The coach does give me just enough distance work to help me keep my pace for the longer races. I am hopeful to see my shorter races get closer to some of my kid times. My distance is already well below my kid times. I still go to breakfast on Friday's with the Tri team and most of them realized that I need a different type of workout than they do, so this is working out for all of us. We used to have lanes on a base interval of 1:20, 1:30, 1:40, etc. and the 1:40's have too many in their lane so now they can take over my 1:30 lane since I was the only one really holding 1:30's.
