Unfortunately for Steve and by some miracle, UT won all the conference meets in all the years that Steve Lundquist attended SMU. Though Steve owned the breastrokes, did great in the IM, made the Olympic team in the 100 fly and swam a heck of a 100 free leg on SMU's 4 x 100 free relay. I think we scored higher at NCAA's at than SMU did each of those years. Though there was quite a long stretch when SMU beat UT at conference but SMU's streak ended when Eddie came to Texas and a few of his transfers gained eligibility in 1980. I think 1979 was Eddies first year at UT and SMU's last year to win conference. When SMU won, they'd scream out each previous year they had won then add the new year to the list.
Now I'm not sure if SMU could out party UT, but SMU was famous for their annual L.A.G.N.A.F. party.

It always comes back to swimming for you Texicans doesn't it?.....Well that's one issue I can't argue with I suppose....but how bout those SMU Mustangs back in the Lundquist days eh??.....Thos spoiled little rich kids had UT's number didn't they??
