First swim meet in 35 years

I’m am registering for my first masters meet and the form is requesting my best times for my selected events.  My best times are from 35 years ago. Do I use those or make up slower times to use?

  • Good for you!  I also had a 35 year break from swimming.  I timed myself during workouts to get an idea what entry time that I should use for each event that I wished to swim.  Obviously my time in a workout was going to be faster than in a meet but that is where I started.  One thing that I suggest is that you should get some work off the blocks if you can because the blocks looked much higher than what I remember and made me uncomfortable.  By the way my first USMS meet was in February 2016 and I am still at it.  Good luck.

  • Funny you should mention the blocks as we called them back then.  My start was always great. However, I live basically on a lake and go boating a lot. My dive into the lake from the boat has been an exaggerate keyhole look and when I tried my first start last week I did just that and nearly hit the bottom of the pool. lol. So I am indeed practicing to get my start back.
