How about both? You can be the evil pimp whose playing people. If you'd like you can also dabble in the drug business, and be Kari's supplier, whose blackmailing her and threatens to tell everybody about her problem unless she pays him hush money. She doesn't know that everybody already knows she's a druggie, and pays you gobs of money to keep you quiet. Oh, and you're behind the killings.
