Lately I feel as though I have lost my competitive edge. What are some of the things you do to stay in a competitive kind of attitude when your swimming?
sometimes take a break or
set a tough goal that I want bad and
work my butt off to reach it

Surf this forum.
Watch videos of swimming events and instruction.
Swim at a different pool or at th esame pool at a different time. The change in atmosphere or just peers always seems to psyche me up.
Buy new goggles or better yet jammers.
I'm not sure what you mean by "competitive edge" or "a competitive kind of attitude". Do you mean that you've lost your drive to excel? Or do you mean that you're discouraged because you feel like you're not improving?
I'm taking a break from competition, and already I'm fueled up to return next year.
Your mind is most likely worn out, and you need to give it time to recharge. Racing is 90 percent mental, and if your brain isn't fired up, what you've been doing in workout won't make a bit of difference.
Do you compete with yourself? If not, perhaps you should!
When I find myself getting into a rut, it seems that it takes a kick in the pants to get me pushing again. Sometimes that push comes when the local school system has an extended break (like Christmas break) and then the kids from the high school team find their way to the YMCA because they can't get to their own pool because the building is closed. When the teeny-bopper 14-year-old girls start blowing past me in the next lane, that seems to give me the kick in the pants I need! "You're still too young to get old! Don't let the kids pass you!"
