It could be just an acknowledgement of getting older, but Richard Quick announced his retirement from coaching and remnants of my world came crashing down.
My era of idols are coming to a close, Jenny Thompson, Matt Biondi, Pablo Morals, Mary T., Betsy Mitchell, Janet Evens, Kristen Otto (yes I grew up with the DDR as the main competitors to the US.).
Sigh…
Granted Katie Hoff and Michael Phelps are exciting, but it’s like the doors are closing and the group have moved on to the next round of swimming stars. Just taking a moment to reflect.
Thanks.
He must be gotten tired of the coaching rotation. I never been a coach but it seems like a really time consuming position. All I have to say that I was on the Janet Evans side of the Evans-Summer Saunders feud back in the early 90s. Evans did outlast Summer by making the Olympics in 1996. I guess that Summer won out because she has her own TV show.

I saw Tracey Caulkins in the most recent issue of Swimming World/Swim Magazine. She was the cover girl of Swimming World when I was an age grouper in the late 70s. I felt very old. Richard Quick coached in Dallas in the 70s but left for greener pastures. Every time I see his name it takes me back to freshman year in HS...28 years ago! Ackkkk.
