The FINA Bureau approved the dates, the schedule of events and the qualifying times for the XI FINA Masters Championships that will be held at the Avery Aquatic Center, Stanford University, Stanford California - August 4 - 17, 2006
Qualifying Times
The qualifying times are now posted. These times are easier than the USMS Long course times, however, remember if you do not swim at or faster than the qualify time you will receive "no time" for your effort - your swim will not count.
Schedule of Events
The schedule of events is up. The swimming portion will take place August 4th through 10th; and will include a day of relays. The open water swim will be on August 11th. There are also schedules for the other aquatic disciplines.
Hotel Rooms
The organizing committee has been working with a destination management company to get hotels at a good rate for swimmers. Those rates are only available if you book through the Internet portal that has been set up that has been set up or if you call the toll free number. Once to the home page of the hotel registration select your stay dates and number of guests in the room first then you will get a list of available hotels.(Also the Internet portal works best with IE 5.01 and IE 6.0+) .
Web Site
All of the above information can be found at the XI FINA World Masters Championship web site - www.2006FINAMasters.org .
Vacation destination
San Francisco and northern California is one of the premeire tourist destinations in the world. Besides the great swimming venue, there will be many day trips scheduled for you or your significant other (or children). This will be a great time to plan a vacation to the golden state.
The Organizing Committee is working on days trips and discounted airfares. Announcements will be made as the plans are made final.

What is the differance , what the quailfying times are . Youswim your race , and nobody elses race. Fast or slow.:)
Hey, just concerned about the length of the meet; not meant to offend- this topic always stirs passions. I went to Brisbane in '88 where they 'only' had 4000+ swimmers & 400 free was still running at midnight. Scary thought & I am sure Stanford will do much better, but it did leave a lasting impression on me.
Thanks for replying about the age thing. I found the site by searching for it, but there was no "meet" info that would answer questions such as age cutoff, and how many per day. I know it is early, but these are the type of questions people need to know.
And cool about the age cutoff, I can go to the next time standard cutoff.
How many events are we allowed to swim, including the limit per day?
Those decisions, which are part of the meet entry book, are made by the FINA Bureau. I expect the meet book to be aproved by the Bureau at the July meeting.
After the meet entry book is approved, we will try to make it availble on-line.

No kidding, Michael, the qualifying times are w-a-a-y slow; what is the rationale for them being that slow- just greater attendance? And I am all for inclusiveness etc., it just seems counter-intuitive- am I missing something?
Gee, thanks. I was actually excited that I had qualifying times. Fear not, perhaps FINA can separate the elite swimmers from those of us who are w-a-a-y slow.
I'm new to the sport and while my coach is a former competitive swimmer (usa swimming), she isn't familiar with masters swimming.
We've gone over FINA's site for all the details and have a question which may seem silly. Where and when do I establish my qualifying times?
Thank you!
The open water swim is August 11, 2006. Here's the link to the schedule: www.2006finamasters.org/.../FINASched1.pdf
I think it's a 3,000 meter swim (3k) but I can't recreate the link to the form where I saw that.
Don't know anything about a QT for the open water but doubt there will be one.
anyone got a better idea?
