I was offered a presciption for steroids in 1952. I went to the library and found out what they were and I told my doctor no.
I knew all kinds of athletes who took them I don't think any one really benefitted from their use.

Anabolic steroids are prescribed for:
*adolescent males who are unable to produce sufficient amounts of testosterone due to pituitary malfunctions
*men who cannot produce testosterone because of the loss of their testes
*some patients with decreased muscle mass due to cancer and/or surgery
