I was offered a presciption for steroids in 1952. I went to the library and found out what they were and I told my doctor no.
I knew all kinds of athletes who took them I don't think any one really benefitted from their use.

How odd this is reappearing now. I have a friend who is getting anabolic steroids from his doctor to correct some sideeffects from his meds for Ulcerative Colitis. The guy has always beena weight lifter. Ihad UC before and you can lose a lot of weight during a flare up. He has to go to the docs office to get the shot. He is really afaraid of the side effects. Does anyone else know of a medical reason to take steroids besides ones like prednisone?
