I was offered a presciption for steroids in 1952. I went to the library and found out what they were and I told my doctor no.
I knew all kinds of athletes who took them I don't think any one really benefitted from their use.

I can find an article that will say just about anything. People are given theraputic doses of steriods everyday. Steroids have many theraputic purposes and can be administered at doses which have little to no risk of serious adverse events. They do have contraindications, and should always be taken under the care of a physician, but steriods are not a substance which will cause you to morph into a mongoloid from taking a 1 CC shot. That is just ridiculous.
I can also find an article that says that there is no safe dose of ephedra. There is absolutely no credible evidence that theraputic doses of ephedra causes serious adverse events, yet the FDA and other junk scienteists more than willingly make giant leaps of faith to conclude otherwise.
Having said all of that, steroids can cause serious problems when abused and taken in doses above therapuetic ranges and for overly long periods of time. Moreover, steroid abuse destroys the very nature of any sport and should not be condoned in any way in any sport. Steroids have their place in medicine, but have absolutely no place in sports.
