Fast Skin Suits

Ok, I just broke down and ordered one for our LMSC meet. I have a question for those of you that have swam in them before. How quickly do they dry out. We have a two day meet (more or less) and I want to be able to use it both days. I just want to make sure that it'll dry well enough over night. Also any other tips I should know or things I should be aware of? Thanks, y'all!

Mine dries out fine overnight (I have a legskin). I always rinse it out in fresh water and only wear it for meets (five so far). One of the seams is beginning to fray a bit.

Were you able to get a Fast Skins II suit? The vendors never seem to have the latest. At least the price of the orginal Fast Skins is coming down. I paid $208 two years ago for my neck high knee fast Skins suit. No arms, just down to the knees which is perfect for breaststroke. Used it for 4 meets so far, ($52 per meet) always wash in woolite. Still in great shape, although I am not:mad:

I got (or will on Thursday) a FastSkin I. It is no arms but full legs. I am wondering how this will affect my less than steallar breaststroke. I am working on the kick like crazy though and every once in a while I feel it ... anyways ... It was on sale at speedo.com. I am fairly certain that it will be fine in the other three strokes. As for the Illinois meet ... those number seems incredibly low. What is going on this year with meets? Is interest really dying out? I am sure there will be a surge (hopefully a big one) in the next week to get entries in on time.

I was talking to a teammate about the fast skin suits and she said everyone was giving tips last year on how to get them on. Yikes. Is it hard to get these suits on? And if so what tips do y'all have to make it easier. I don't want to spend thirty minutes of warm-up time trying to get into a suit. I need stress free mornings on meet days! At least it's prefered.

I must point out that if you read Carl's entry about the 1650 and the one about overall registration, there are about 100 people enterred in the Il. state meet and 80 are for the 1650. Illinois has a four day meet! I have a pair of fastckin briefs. They are great. I really like them

to SwiminONandON and others: I was just wondering how the fast skin suit felt .Are they really as good as they say they are?Judging by the price they should be outstanding, lol.I was just wondering if anybody felt like fastskins actually make you faster. Any experiences??? Are they worth the money?
  • DEFINITELY practice with one before a meet. One workout won't stretch it out. I don't think you should try any thing new for an important meet. You want a familiar suit, familiar goggles etc. So get the suit wet and see how it feels.
  • My question is...is it best to practice once or twice in your new fastskin if you have never raced in one before? Or will that really wear the suit out?
  • I disagree. I think the first time you wear the suit, it should be dry, the event important to you, and you've never worn it before--kind of like losing your swimming virginity. You will be amazed at how much it can help--and this feeling of superhumandom will percolate through your mind during the whole race, helping to banish any feelings of pain! These suits always help, but they're never better than the first time.

Can any body agree on anything? Haha ... Seriously, I've heard wear the suit before the meet, don't wear the suit before the meet (that's my plan), shave down a couple days before, don't shave down until the night before (again, my plan), etc. Basically it comes down to doing what you feel comfortable with I guess. I did try on the suit just to make sure it did fit. I'll have an aquablade in my bag "just in case". I don't want to stretch out the suit at all first. I'll be swimming some races I've never swam before at the state meet so it'll be all sorts of good times. I totally agree with the goggles idea though. I would never wear brand new goggles at a meet. Those babies need to be adjusted and worn at least once or twice first. I swear by speed sockets, and have a couple of pairs and I still wouldn't wear a brand new pair for the first time at a meet. But that's just me.
