have you ever had it measured?
I just had it done at 24 hour fitness with one of those little Body Gem thingies
www.healthetech.com/.../
It came out to be 1960, meaning I need thatmany calories per day to maintain weight being sedentary. No exercise or light activity added.
I was litle surprized, for a female, I thought the number would be closer to 1500 - 1600. Not that I'm complaining.
Another good news, 8 weeks on a low fat, low carb restricted calorie nutritionally balanced diet, and I lost 25 pounds.
Swimming 3-5 days a week, and doing couple extra walks (2-4 mi) a week is the exercise I used to do, and continued to do.
25 pounds to go :)
I might add 2 - 3 times a week dryland core strengthening and little more cardio exercises very soon.
Resting pulse still stuck at 70... I'm not too happy about that, being that in workouts I'm well into and frequently above the target range, during the main sets often in high 180's and low 190's (my max is about 185). I'll have to investigate what's up with that...
For those who might be curous, this is the diet I'm on:

That is awesome, and it is good you have such a high RMR. The closest Body Gem is 2 hours from me, or I would go have this done. I have been using the software Balance Log to help track calories in and out, but don't know my RMR, so it uses a standard calculation and gives me 1450.
Connie,
Congratulations on your weight loss success! Do you keep a log of your calorie intake as part of your diet? Any idea if the Body Gem number matches your real life experience. Just curious to hear your take.

On my diet I have to do a food and exercise diary, and turn it in every day. Hving extra accountability really helps to stay on track and not neglect things.
Losing the weight is helping my swimming too, I feel stronger in water. :)
And I could take on little more exercise, since my body doesn't suffer or tire out as quickly without the extra weight.

Yes, food and exercise log, vitamins etc... and some room for adittional memos.
Way back, probably 8-9 years ago, last time I kept really close track of calories and exercise, I know I used to be able to keep between 1500 and 1800 calories, and slowly keep losing... But, I wasn't exactly religious abut keeping track, it would be a ballpark, so it's probably close.
The reason I gained the last 20-30 pounds is because I had to cut down on my workouts to rest the shoulders, but kept eating as if I was still swimming every day. 3000-3500 calories a day. 6 months of that *will* catch up with you.
