Michael Phelps said he is looking to swim some new events, but is being very secrative about it. Anyone want to throw out a guess as to what those events are? I would consider the following "his" events: 200 free, 200 IM, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 back, and maybe the 100 free.
My guess is the 400 free and maybe the 50 free or 100 back. I can't see him becoming a breaststroker. So that leaves the shorter back race and free.
Anyone else?
i think phelps could pop a really good 200 ***
he split 35 or so on his
200 meter IM and
1:10 - 1:12 on his 400 IM
I'm pretty sure phelps could go under 2:15 in the 200 M Br
He's deadly in the 400 M free as well
at the olympics he just didn't have the speed to split 47 on the 4 x 100 free, but his 2nd 50 splits in his 100 free and his last 50 in his 200 free were awesome. At the olympics phelps was coming on strong in the 200 free. He might be able to take thorp in the 400.

Ouch Aquageek! Give the kid a break. He made a mistake (allbeit a rather large one) and since then there haven't been any more reports of him being wild and crazy.
I would hate to have to live life in the spot light and have all of my mistakes made public.
But back to the point of this thread ...
A breaststroker, really? Obviously the kid is dang fast in all four strokes but *** is definitely his weakest. Of course I am sure he works it all the time to get better at the IM, but I would be surprised if he started swimming the 200 ***, not that I don't think he couldn't.

I bet he is considering chandeliers or quarters, two events he seems to excel at these days.
Hey - are those going to be new olympic events??
I think it's time to start trainin!:D
I would place a bet that one of the new events will be the 400m free. His 400m IM demonstrates he's well suited to that distance and I strongly suspect that he'd like to have another go against Thorpe on his home turf. Thorpe has said he's going to move to the shorter events but I don't know that he'll just let Phelps take over the 400.
SwimOnandOn:
I would hardly consider the 200 back "his" event, considering Aaron Peirsol's current status, combined with the fact that he dropped that event for the Olympics.
However, I agree that he might possibly be considering the 400 IM. I would venture that he is working towards more distance events, though approaching Grant Hackett and saying, "May I take over your event" may require a certain amount of brass (or drinking beforehand)
Of course, at next weekend's American Short Course Championships, Ian Crocker is swimming the 100 back, Brendan Hansen is swimming the 200 IM, and Aaron Peirsol will be attempting (oddly enough) the 200 fly. Talk about mixing up events......so apparently, 'tis the season...
