How much do you pay for masters workouts?

Hello - I'm new to this board. I recently took up swimming again (did it a lot (competitively) in my much, much younger days), and have dabbled here and there for the past 6 years or so, but I'm now doing more regular workouts at a local indoor pool. I started because I'm a runner currently off land with a stress fracture, so while doing pool running I noticed the masters workouts going on and decided to join in for the added crosstraining. It turns out that this coach is great. The workouts generally have 3 to 8 people, and being new, I'm always in Lane 1 getting constant input on my stroke, which has already changed. He really pushes us pretty hard, doing all strokes, lots of drills and intervals - definitely good for lactate threshold workouts, endurance, and V02 max (things I relate to in running). I was wondering, if you care to share, what you pay for masters workouts, and what you get for that (how many days per week, additional pool time at no extra cost, etc.). And, a couple more questions if you don't mind: Any benefits to joining USMS if you are not planning on doing swim meets? (I'm planning on doing a triathlon here and there, hence the swimming.) And, kickboards: cheap foam okay, or any difference in what's out there? Thanks for any input!!

Unfortunately their morning workout times end at the time I'm supposed to be getting at work (7am) and their evening practices end at 8:30pm. Being about 20 minutes from my house, and needing some sleep (hard to start at 7am without sleep!), so far I haven't been able to join them... Instead I pay $70 a month for a gym I get to use right after work, but no masters team... Just want to add that the fee here is for 3 weekday morning workouts, 3 night workouts and one weekend morning workout, you can attend all if you like and if you want to only participate once per week then you pay half the season fee.

Oh, and my gym in Crystal City also has a master's team, for five 1.5 hour morning workouts and one night workout and that's $25 a month (or $250 a year) in addition to the $70 a month I already pay for my gym membership. Quite expensive, considering I go to the gym only to swim. Since their times also don't work with my work hours, I still swim on my own!

I was going to grad school at UGA when REM and all the other Athens band were playing the clubs and just about to make it big. Athens is so cool they even made a movie about it, called what else but "Athens." I'd move back to Athens in a heartbeat if I could find a job there that paid as good and had working conditions as nice as the one here. Lainey

The West Y pool, less than 5 years old, is 50 meters by 25 yards, most workouts are the 25 yard direction. The 10 25 yard lanes are at least 6' deep, when swimming the 50 meter direction the shallow end is about 4' deep. Both facilites have complete gyms and all the other workout options available. Pretty great setup actually. Oh, members can swim anytime the Y is open if the coached workouts aren't at a good time. We have about 100 Masters Swimmers. Thanks Dee. I'll let you know if we ever get transfered there. Right now I'm in Portland so it won't be too big of a move. Do you know if the Y has any discount for Fed. Employees?

But quoting one of their recent mailings, "The Treasure Valley Family YMCA remains committed to never turning anyone away due to the inability to pay."

Wow, looks like on my team we're getting things really cheap! $55 a month for unlimited access to 25 workouts a week! And a mandatory USMS membership, once a year $35 in my LMSC.
