Age for Open water? Meters or Yards rules

How is age for open water swimming determined during the year in which you "age up" - i.e. if you turn 50 during the year, the rules indicate you swim as 50-54 from Jan 1 on, but for Yards is still actual birthdate. The rules seem silent as to open water?

  • If you’re asking about USMS open water rules, they seem pretty straight forward to me. “The eligibility of a participant for a particular age group will be determined by the age as of the day of the swim” If you turn 50 on, say, July 4th, you would be 49 at a race on the 3rd and 50 on a race on the 4th. It doesn’t matter if the race is a 5K or a 3.1 Miler.
