How is age for open water swimming determined during the year in which you "age up" - i.e. if you turn 50 during the year, the rules indicate you swim as 50-54 from Jan 1 on, but for Yards is still actual birthdate. The rules seem silent as to open water?
If you’re asking about USMS open water rules, they seem pretty straight forward to me.
“The eligibility of a participant for a particular age group will be determined by the age as of the day of the swim”
If you turn 50 on, say, July 4th, you would be 49 at a race on the 3rd and 50 on a race on the 4th. It doesn’t matter if the race is a 5K or a 3.1 Miler.
