The most hard core thing . . .

What is the craziest thing you do to get your swims in? Here is mine: I work tonight from 7 pm to 5 am, THEN I head to the pool for an hour and 15 minutes of swimming. Granted its not the highest quality practice in my week, but with working four ten hour shifts every week I have to swim somewhere during my work week, and that is when it fits in on this shift. My husband just shakes his head says "Whatever honey" as he won't miss me at that hour!

Those last few posts prompted me to say this. Maybe this isn't really "hard core", and maybe this belongs in the "You-know-you-are-a-swimmer-when" thread. If I am going to travel out of town anywhere, one of my primary to-do items before I leave is to know where I am going to swim. Maybe it's the hotel I will stay at. Maybe it's a nearby YMCA. And I call ahead of time. "How big is your pool? What are your lap swim times? Do you accept my YMCA AWAY membership? ..." And when I'm talking to a person from the hotel and he doesn't know what lap swimming is, or how large his pool is, I know I'm likely to be disappointed if I expect to do lap swimming there, so I make sure I know where the nearest YMCA is.
