metacarpal bone fracture

I have broken a metacarpal bone in my hand. The cast will come off in 4 weeks, but the break is a spiral one which means, my trainer said, that I should not "pull" in swimming until 8 weeks from the time of the break. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of injury? I haven't asked my dr. yet but he is not a swimmer and I'm not sure what advice he will give.

Is this one of the bones in your fingers? After four weeks in a cast your hand is likely to be sore and stiff. It may take a bit for you to become comfortable with the use of your hand again. If flexibility is not an issue you can always swim with closed fists or with fist gloves.
