Just had to give something for us northerns to write about. You know you are swimming in the north when you go for a polar bear swim.
  • Growing up in NY, moving to Georgia for 16 years and now living in Oregon, I love snow!!!! Always have and always will. In Portland, though, it's rare to get any since we're in a valley. But last Jan. I got to drive home from evening practice in snow. I think everyone on the road looked at me like I was crazy since I was smiling from ear to ear. Snow makes me happy!:D

Neat thing about the South, we have trees with leaves that actually change color just like the leaves in the North. If you don't believe me, take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway sometime in October.

And I don't even get that much here in the Philly suburbs - maybe 20 or so inches on average. Snow is great!!! It is very cool to drive to the pool in the morning while it is snowing - you can bet you will ge a lane to yourself. Then, I can see the snow through the large windows when I turn my head to breathe or stop for a quick break. My wife and I both love snow - we cheer the weatherman when he predicts snow!!! Did I mention I like snow?;)

Where else can you sled ride into a pool. With a heater you can have the water at whatever temp you want. Last week when I drove to Cumberland for a meet it was the most beautiful scene with all the colored leaves. Bet you can't get that in the south. In the winter that will change to all white. It's nice to have a change in scenery and you don't even have to go anywhere.

The Last of the Mohicans was filmed in North Carolina, near Blowing Rock. The filmmaker wanted the scenery to look like the Hudson River Valley before the American Revolution, unspoiled.

You know you're swimming in the north when... the smell from the hockey change rooms almost overpowers the chlorine smell from the pool in the rec centre foyer...
