...a large group of (large) people file into the YMCA pool area on a Sunday afternoon and fill the bleachers, not to watch me finish my set, but to conduct a baptism.
They stayed away from the lap swimmers.

Here in El Paso, you know you're a swimmer when you get a kick out of swimming at Six in the evening (when Daylight Savings Time ends) to find it's pitch dark outside. "WOW! What time is it, Nine? ...Nah, it's only six in the evening, the night is still young!"
