...a large group of (large) people file into the YMCA pool area on a Sunday afternoon and fill the bleachers, not to watch me finish my set, but to conduct a baptism. They stayed away from the lap swimmers.

    You know you are swimming in the south when the pool is closed every afternoon for several hours while the daily thunderstorms roll through. You know you are swimming in the south when someone asks, "Do y'all mind if I share this lane with you," rather than just jumping in. You know you are swimming in the south when it is too hot to go swimming in the afternoon. You know you are swimming in the south when, during the summer, the pool is drained slightly and fresh cool water is put in to lower the water temperature.
