We're thinking about holding a combined Masters and age group meet. What do I need to do to ensure that we meet the sanction and insurance requirements of both governing bodies (USMS and USA Swimming)?
For example, can Masters and USA-S swimmers swim in the same heat, or do they need to be in separate heats?

Thanks for all of your comments. Here is the "official word" from Colleen Driscoll, chairman of the USMS Insurance Committee.

Hi Anna Lea,
You can hold a "combined" meet provided that you get two separate sanctions, therefore meeting the meet requirements for both organizations. You could actually hold a heat with both USA and USMS swimmers provided that they are divided by lanes and swim with their own rules being enforced. Perhaps you have lanes 1-3 for the USMS swimmers, with an official, and lanes 4-6 for the USA swimmers, with an official. Thereby keeping the groups separate with their own set of rules being enforced. You can also alternate heats as you suggested. Just remember that both set of rules must be followed and there should be a separation of the groups. Perhaps the groups can warm up separately in the lanes which they are going to be using.
If you have any further questions, please let me know. It sounds like a great idea and a lot of fun!

Colleen Ann Driscoll
