Well a friend of mine mentioned this site and so far I read some pretty interesting threads.
I'm trying to figure out where can I go to get some coaching?
I recently started picking up swimming again and haven't had any formal coaching...just from what I seen at the local pool.
My goal is to to get proficient in all the strokes and do IMs. I just want to learn the proper techiques for the various strokes and the correct/efficient turning methods.
I would prefer to find a place that's close by the Anaheim, Orange County area. Since I work full time my schedule can be tough, the times I can workout varies on
-weekdays after 7PM is fine
-exception is on Fridays since I get every other Friday off.
-Friday's that I'm off and weekends after 10AM *I need sleep to recovery from the work week* ;)
Can someone break it down for me what I should do next...I can't make heads or tails which association am I suppose to join (USMS,SPMA,LMSC,etc)
Recommendations are also welcomed. :D

Hey OCI, I live in Orange and haven't joined USMS yet although I plan to in January, so I've checked a lot of the clubs out. If you check out "Places to Swim" on the left side of the USMS.org main page you can search the South Pacific Zone, there are lots of clubs here in the OC. I am likely to join up at UCI because the evening workout times are good for me (6:00-7:30 PM) and it's fairly convenient geographically.
From what I've seen of workout times from the various clubs, your biggest problem might be your after 7 PM workout time requirement. Any possibility you'd be able to hit morning workouts? Many of the clubs, including UCI, have them.
Personally, right now I'm swimming at LA Fitness and drilling with TI's "Four Strokes Made Easy" video - it's been a huge help to me. Although I did swim competitively years ago, the drills and concepts have really cut down on my stroke count. I've also ordered the book "Fitness Swimming" by Emmet Hines, judging from posts I've read and book reviews, a lot of people like the drill method better than TI, so I'm going to give it a shot.
If you can't find a club with training times that fit your schedule, you can still join USMS and compete as an unattached swimmer, or join a club to compete on their team even if you can't make many workouts. I generally swim around 8:00 PM or so - I might not mind a training partner if you're inclined.
Cheers!
