The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

The juices were flowing The thread kept on growing It started for fun But oh what has begun The poetry began At the tip of Swimmy's hand The inspiration it brings Among other things To let it die now Well that would just suck! Keep up the good work guys! I think were on to something here!! ~Kyra

It's 6 am in the early morn Do I have to get up I'm so nice and warm? For lap upon lap I keep swimming my strokes For hour upon hour With some right smelly folks. I get out when I'm done And the days just began Full of energy and life But coffee be nice!! Whether to start the day Or end....it's okay I couldn't think of a better way!! ~Kyra

  • Oh, the poems for me! How sweet can you be! Gushing, Praising, Inspiring! And to think, that very first poem I almost did delete! Swimmy
  • Oh no, how could I forget? Now I am filled with much regret! Dripping, Crumpling, Molding, My towel I left in my bag all soppy and wet! Oh no, it is such a horrible mess! I didn't close the shampoo bottle, I guess! Oozing, Leaking, Pouring, Now I am in a fit of great distress! Oh no, where do I start to clean? Everything is slimy and green! Sudsing, Mucking, Gooing, I wish this was just a really bad dream! Swimmy

For hour upon hour With some right smelly folks. mmm? I wonder which post that line is referring too? (Could it be the "unshowered fragrant lane mates" post perhaps??....As usual I'm probably way off with that guess??). Looks like Seagurl (and fishgrrl) are both turning into real master poets here!......Just can't hold back those creative juices I guess eh? newmastersswimmer p.s. I promise I won't also refer to either of y'all as a guy sometime later down the road! Maybe the nicknames "Seagurl" and "Fishgrrl" "might" keep me focused enough to avoid that mistake?? (I'm old and loosin it mentally but somehow I am managing to just barely hang on!)

I once knew a swimmer named Seagurl Once she got started, Poetry galore would unfurl Only a blind man could fail to see That she was as motivated as anyone could be Especially about both swimming and poetry
