(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

Now Borky just wouldn't take warning,
Though his limerick threats left SwimStud yawning,
So 'Stud thumped on Jim's brain,
Then put him on a train,
Which arrived in Alaska next morning!
Wow Fort! When you finally hit this poetry thread, your creative explosions finally erupted into such a complete culmination of the swimmer's view of reality its almost scarey! Some powerful stuff there....I'm glad I'm not really conscious though, for the hell you've described would certainly make me to cowardly to ever get near any pools again (as your poem so eloquently describes...LOL!!)

Will This War Ever Reach Its End?....by Newmastersswimmer
Oh the drudgeries of this ongoing war
With this crazy Brit that I've come to abore ....(not reall though LOL!!)
After so many threats
Based on such twisted concepts
Yet he keeps coming right back for more.
Is this dude some kind of a nut?
He doesn't mind becoming a human doughnut?
I would've thought for sure
That he couldn't endure
Spending the rest of his life
With his head up his butt??!
In that case, write away!!! ;)
Congrats on the increasing intensity and yardage!
I love the comeback this thread is making!!! Keep it up everybody!!

I must say you are waging a formidable war. Quite engaging, as is your new avatar! Like it much better than the fish! I think your gun is bigger than Rich's gun from what I can tell. The avatar/signature escapades have added some real entertainment value to the forum. Seems we can count on a change of signature from Poolraat almost every day.

Why thank you fort.....that means a lot to me coming from such an emerging poetic talent as yourself!

Now Jim he just wouldn't relax,
As Stud's lines chopped him down like an axe,
Jim's ego felt short,
So he sought help from Fort,
But she gave him a "Brazilian" wax!
:joker:
Since SwimStud had hogged the attention
Old Jim felt he needed a mention,
He spied Stud's right gun,
And thought "I'll google one!"
As his real arm was not in contention!
Now Jim he just wouldn't relax,
As Stud's lines chopped him down like an axe,
He spied Stud's right gun,
And thought "I'll google one!"

Nice poems there rich....only I'm a little confused about something??....Why would my own lines cut me down like an axe?...and why would I spy my own gun??
Newmastersswimmer (AKA The REAL SwimStud....and sometimes KA Jim-Stud)
p.s. And what exactly is this "google" thing you refer too anyway? Is that some kinda internet place where you got your gun pic or something?...And anytime you want to compare bellies let me know o.k....Aint know one around here has a bigger one than me!!....LOL!!
And The War Rages On....by Newmastersswimmer
I tried to warn that silly Brit cus
Now its time to unleash the Bork-Bus
So instead of my foot
It'll be his own head up his buutt
A "Human Doughnut"
He'll end up as a freak in some travelling circus
Recall please that chap named Jim Bork,
He decided to act like a dork,
So I went to to the South,
And when he ran his mouth,
I plugged it tight shut with a cork.
About me...
The was Brit fella name "***,"
Who woke up today feeling sick,
Ahead: a week's taper,
Then his first "masters" caper,
He better shake off his cold quick!
Rich, I've been fighting a cold lately, too. Get better quickly. I had a very interesting experience swimming today every time I went deep (starts and turns) my head felt full of pressure behind the eyes, it also made breathing a challenge, and I still pulled off 2 PRs! The other events we aren't going to mention ...
