The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

  • OK, here's my promised St. Valentine's Day jokster poem. (Writing time 3 minutes: Dead Poet inspired, obviously.) Dedicated to my FAF Sista Twin, Beth, in honor of her comeback. :smooch: SPRINTS How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee for the burst, the thrill, the speed, The heights my soul can reach from sprinter need. For the end of touchpads and ideal Race. I love thee for the rawness of caffeine unleashed. Most dangerous with taper thus released. I love thee freely, as women strive for Right; I love thee purely, as thou redeem the fight. In my new fastskin, and with childhood's desire I love thee with a love I never lost With all my lost years -- I love thee with no breath, Smiles, cheers, of all my life! -- and if I choose, I shall but love thee better as I age ... up. To Fortress' age group!! :groovy: :)
