The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

I much prefer the cute kid avatar. Is that your little one? posted by swimr4life Yes, that is my son Neal when he was around 1 year old. He is seven now (he will be 8 in May). I decided to change my avatar every few days with a new picture of him....I will eventually get up to the 7 year old pics....but I really like the baby pics the most! The worst part about that is I feel sorry for everyone who was working (hard) and didn't get a chance to see that this afternoon. perhaps you should put that back up for a few more hours posted by Muppet I will try and see if I can host that bizzarre bicep pic on something like photobucket (or some other free webhosting site if there are any left??) and then post a link to it later for those who missed it....I'm guessing the guy was not a swimmer....LOL!! His forearms were so small yet his upper arm was like a mutated watermelon from 3 mile Island...LOL!!   ...Oh and nice poem Muppet....maybe you should share more poetry on this thread from now on (or song lyrics like you posted before). Newmastersswimmer p.s. And since I have to teach a night class from 6 to 9 tonight, I will have to wait on my latest retaliation limerick to the British Blowchunk....I mean British Blowfish....uhmm ...sorry about that.:D
