Joining USMS

I have two questions about Joining USMS. 1. based on the USMS web site, the nearest "official" masters team to me is in the next county. Since I hope to compete, do I join that team even though I don't know anyone there will probably never meet them? Or, is it better to go unattached. 2. In an event, like the 100 fly, how many entries are there, average? Is it co-ed. and what are ranges of times that event at a typical local meet. How far do people travel to compete. Do you guys all know each other? Thats more than two questions.

You can check out meet results on this website (see Competition) or have a look at www.spma.net/ the Southern Pacific Masters website. At smaller meets, the heats may be mixed, but the final results are listed according to age group and gender.
