Stroke Rate

Hello, I am realatively new to swimming and I would like some advice about stroke rate. I am currently swimming on a 25 yard pool and when swimming freestyle I do about 20-22 strokes (10-11 stroke cycles). I start in the water witout pushing against the wall at all everytime I do the count. I am a 28 year old man 6' 1'' tall. Are my numbers OK? or should I have less strokes? Also I would like to begin training for 100 meter freestyle races. Could anybody provide me with an average trainning schedule for an entire season. My personal goal is to swimm 100 meters in or below 1 minute and I hope I can achive that by next year. I would like to know, how many times a week should I train, how much time, what distances, type of workout, etc. Many thanks in advance.

At your height, you should be well under 20. Always push off of the wall. Also do you start with a kick or a stroke? You should work on starting with a kick. Also, make sure that at least 10% of your workout is kicking either with a board or in a streamline position. Go to Swimm200.com (? it might be org). They have really good workouts for many different ranges. Also on this sitre, nate's workouts are very good. they might be too advanced for you but you can modify them for your distances.
