I just started swimming about a month and a half ago and everything was ok until about a week ago my hip started hurting so bad that the paid echoes almost all the way through my left leg.The pain is basically right in my left buttock, on the side(not where you sit down).I find it kinda weird, I have no idea what caused it.Another funny thing is that while I am swimming I don't really feel it, but as I stop to rest standing I can hardly do it because of the pain. Also, I get that about 20 min. through my work-out.I strech before every time I swim and especially since my hip started hurting like that.Still does not help!
I thought maybe I pinched a nerve or something, because the area is not swollen, but the pain is there.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?PLEASE, HELP!
THANKS.

Piriformis pain feels almost like sciatic pain (the piriformis runs near or around the sciatic nerve). Causes some of the pain down the leg PUT the pain is more towards the hip side instead of the "crack" of the butt. The piriformis pain can be caused by the SI joint moving (or going out--and not for dinner!). I've also developed it by sitting for prolonged periods of time with one leg crossed and the ankle resting on the knee of the other leg. Something about abduction--which could lead you right back to kicking mechanics.
Resting and learning the right stretches can help.
