I was wondering if anyone can offer advice on one arm freestyle drills. The question I have deals with the location of the non-pulling arm and which side to breath on. I've done the one arm drill with the non-pulling arm extended straight out in front as if doing a catch up drill as well as leaving it back along side of the body. Also, should you breath on the same side you're pulling on or is it dependent on the location of the non-pulling arm?

Dan,
This web site has some good info. on drills, etc. But the videos are the real attraction. I'm sure you'll find this helpful.
I prefer doing one arm drills at every warm up with the non stroking arm straight out. This way your extended hand can get a feel for the "flow" of on rushing water. And you're right about being able to turn this into a catch-up type of drill. (Breathing on every stroke, the same side as the stroking arm, is very common by the way.)The advantage to leaving one arm back is that it will teach more of a body roll. It can be a little awkward though, especially for people with poor propulsion in their stroke.
