I've been searching the web for a masters team to swim with between the hours of 5:30am - 6:30am, and a saturday swim, but I've had zero lucky. Does anybody have any info. of a club with those practice time in southeast Michigan? I checked with the Michigan Master Swimming website and didn't find anything. I can't swim in the evening, my wife works afternoons and I'm with the children in the evening.
  • Have you tried calling the contacts, listed on the Michigan LMSC web site (http://www.michiganmasters.com )?
  • Hi, JP... I'm not sure what part of Southeastern Michigan you reside in....but in Ann Arbor, we have a Masters' workout from 5:45 AM until 7:15 AM. If you absolutely have to get out of the pool at 6:30 in the morning then you could be cut pretty short on a lot of days.....but if you are close enough to Ann Arbor you might be able to squeeze in a few extra minutes. We work out at Fuller pool (across from the University of Michigan Hospital) until the day after Labor Day. At that time we switch over to an indoor pool (Mack pool). The masters group is run by the City of Ann Arbor...which has both bad and good aspects. The workouts are coached...and I think our coach is pretty good, but we don't have Saturday workouts. You are probably going to have to train on your own during the week if a.m. swims are what fits your schedule. I know that up here in mid Michigan our practice times are p.m (8:30-10:00). during the week and a.m. on Saturday. If this is the case with your local Masters, at least one day a week with a coach is better than none. You may want to look into your local YMCA, they have early a.m. morning lap swims during the week. Hope to see ya on the blocks!

My old college coach now coaches the local HS team here. He loves it when I come & practice with the team in the AM. Helps out the HS kids too as I give them someone to chase

jp, we just started swimming at Oakland University last night. The practices ar from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday night and from 10:00 - 12:00 on Saturday morning and from 12:00 - 2:00 on Sunday afternoon. I realize that the weekday swims don't meet your schedule, but if it fits your schedule for the weekend, at least you'll have two days with a coach. Also, I know that they swim at Royal Oak Dondero. I'm not sure about the times, but if I recall from two years ago, they were morning swims. So you may want to check there, especially considering it's right next to Madison Heights.

Thanks Sally for the invite, but I work in Madison Heights and AA will not work for me.
