HELLO EVERYONE FROM VENEZUELA!! I am glad that I found about this forum and to find sooo many interesting subjects. So you will see me around every now and then. So I got back into swimming after 2 months and I need some help/advice. Before I used to be in a master swimming team but then I stopped and now I am swimming on my own 4 times a week. What would be an ideal workout that provides me with endurance, speed and so on...? I swim around 3280 yards so I don't know if that's enough or how should I increase the number of helps. In other words...help me! If anybody out there has any links, tips, books that they recommend, ANYTHING! please feel free to send them to me. MUCHAS GRACIAS for you help!!

Welcome! Distance accomplished isn't always necessarily the key. Especially as we get older, I personally feel smarter workouts are the focus, although that's not an excuse for not doing enough distance. You can look up in this forum under the Training menu on the home page for listings of types of workouts. Within that info will also point you to other sites that list various workouts. I've come to depend on the following rule of thumb: 1 - Variety is a must. Mixing up workouts keeps my progress moving forward. If you do the same workout always I've found the progress forward stops or slows considerably. 2 - A lot depends on whether you want to focus on long distance swimming or sprints in competition. I do lots of interval training with 50s, 100s and 200s as I compete only in sprints. However, with the concept of variety and conditioning, I work in long distance swims as well. 3 - My biggest piece of advice, especially as I age, is stretching. It not only impacts good performance, but limits possiblity of injury and also helps recovery. Hope that helps a bit. Welcome to the forum. This is a community of GREAT people who love swimming and living life. Also - I love Caracas. I did work there on several times around 1999 and thoroughly enjoyed the city. Dan
