I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of excitement and debate about the olympic swimming events. Both here on this board and also at my home, office, etc. Is it my imagination, or is there more interest in swimming from the general public (aka non-Masters swimmers) this olympics?
It's a shame that we can't have this kind of interest in swimming more often.

I noticed it in my gym's pool starting about a month ago (around the time of the Olympic trials). But I suspect the interest stems from the fact that it's August, and it's hot, rather than people feeling inspired to be the next Phelps/Coughlin.
Part of me hopes the interest will die down, if only so my pool will become less crowded. :)
