Did anyone read Janet Evans article in Yahoo this AM?
What are your thoughts?
I thought she was a bit off base....esp when she slammed the swimmer who almost heaved after her event.

you know, i noticed during the trials (she wrote articles then, too), she was a little unfair in some of her comments. not sure what the deal is... maybe some little bittersweet emotions coming out? hmmmmm.......
I was psyched when I found the Evans articles, but then slowly became more turned off by her opinions and her attitude. Hey, I don't know the lady, but I defiantly see a bit of a poisoned pen when it comes to HER experiences at the Olympics compared to everyone else competing...

I agree that her comments about Katie Hoff were off-base. She's a 15 year old girl who was overcome with nerves at the Olympics and simply couldn't control herself. It is pretty unusual to see if crying in swimming.
I also think her comments about Brenda Hansen, while accurate about his body posture on the medal stands, were also basically an unfair characterization of his attitude. First, he did not join the chorus of protests against Kitajima's "illegal" kick. Second, his posture was probably more a reaction to his own failure than some kind of protest aganst Kitajima.
I though Kitajima's behaviour after winning the 100 *** with his shouting and "in your face" posturing the worst example of poor sportsmanship at these Olympic games. Not as bad as Amy Van Dyken, but really not in keeping with good sportmanship.
Nevertheless, the vast majority (95) of swimmers do behavior with grace and dignity regardless of whether they are winning or losing.
She WAS a great swimmer. She IS a lousy writer, but who knows how much "help" she got from editors who know little/nothing about swimming. It is a very unfortunate piece of writing.

Well, Janet Evans was lucky that she was able to beat the East Germans that were on steriods. Shirley Babashoff who swam a decade earlier was not able too. Janet has probably at least a 1/2 million income a year while Shirley is a postial worker at around 43,000 a year. So, Janet shouldn't put other swimmers down.
