How many have Endorphin highs?
I have had only 2 while swimming in 20 years, but nearly a dozen while in the weight room.
It seems to be triggered by two things, using a carbo sports drink, and major stress to the body.
My best swimming high was a nearly 6000 yard workout, outdoors in beautiful sun. At the end of the workout was a huge butterfly set, I felt like I was a dolphin, able to nearly fly over the waters surface. Allmost out of body experience.
In the weight room, I used to drink a Carbo pump drink before working out. If I stressed my legs just right, say 450 pounds on the toe lifts, I would get a endorphin high that would last 2 hours or more.:D :D :D :D :D
When in that high, I could do increadible things, leg press over a thousand pounds, stuff like that! And I would still feel the high after the workout. Way cool.
Since I don't take drugs, this is as good as it gets for me.

Hard to answer that without all sorts of qualifications... I did 3:40 for the swim (it's a little over 8 miles, actually). We had some current going with us for the first 4 miles. Then it got very rough for about 1/4-1/2 mile, God knows if there was a current or not - I was too busy worrying about the bow of my crew's boat disappearing under waves. After that, we had about 2 miles of cross-current, which just killed me since I could never find a good line. The final 2-ish miles may have had a slight current assist, but I was just worrying about not getting passed and didn't really notice.
Bill Ireland, who occasionally posts here, won the thing. I was about 150 yards behind him at the half-way point and moving up, but when we hit the cross-current section, he dropped me like I was treading water. Not sure if he found a good current, hitched a ride on a passing dolphin or just hit major afterburner mode, but it was impressive, whatever he did.
I highly recommend the swim if (a big if) you are "comfortable" with water that cold for that length of time.
