OK,not at the same time but how much do you drink each week/day and how does it affect your swimming/times.I have recently cut down from moderate amounts each day to only moderate amounts at the weekend and also managed to cut my 1500m swim by 1 minute!!!!!

I'm sure I can find points and counter points through out the internet which, depends on who pays for the research.
I used coke all through my years racing and enjoyed it, even drank it during my races, however I am not going to search for the to proof carbonated beverages slow the conversion of oxygen to the blood and don't really care if it does or does not. I was told this by a scientist and I believe he told me the truth. I cannot give his name as I do not have his permission and have not been able to reach him in 30 years.

A lot of scientific opinion has changed in 30 years. I just wanted people to know that your statement wasn't as cut and dried as you made it sound.

...What's that... cola? Nevermind. :D It was Coca Cola. My brother Tom also drank a case during the Atlantic City marthon swim.
In Alexandria Egypt during a 44k race, I sent to shore for some cold Coca Cola to drink. I was so hot in that race I needed a cold drink. When it arrived I poured it over my head to cool me off before I took a drink, but it had been sitting in the sun, ouch it was hot.

Further to your counter point I guess my good friend Roger Bannister could have been wrong, and maybe not

Who knows. Maybe depends on the distance. I swam with the guy who first broke 1:50 for the 200 yard IM. He had a coke just before every big race.
I'm sure it'll hurt some and help others. Like most things it's probably not black and white.

I don't think it is what you drink or don't drink. You have to have heart and desire, which is what Mike Maclaughlan told me before I beat Clarke Scholes in the 100.

I think you are 100% correct. People may look for a magic potion but the heart and will of the swimmer is more important.

Getting back to alcohol...
A famous swim coach once told me that 1 to 1 and a half oz. of whiskey was a stimulant but if I had more before a race it would no longer be a stimulant. I was under age at the time and did not try it.
