OK,not at the same time but how much do you drink each week/day and how does it affect your swimming/times.I have recently cut down from moderate amounts each day to only moderate amounts at the weekend and also managed to cut my 1500m swim by 1 minute!!!!!

A lot of scientific opinion has changed in 30 years. I just wanted people to know that your statement wasn't as cut and dried as you made it sound.

My brother Tom also drank a case during the Atlantic City marthon swim. In Alexandria Egypt during a 44k race, I sent to shore for some cold Coca Cola to drink. I was so hot in that race I needed a cold drink. When it arrived I poured it over my head to cool me off before I took a drink, but it had been sitting in the sun, ouch it was hot. Who knows. Maybe depends on the distance. I swam with the guy who first broke 1:50 for the 200 yard IM. He had a coke just before every big race. I'm sure it'll hurt some and help others. Like most things it's probably not black and white.

You have to have heart and desire, which is what Mike Maclaughlan told me before I beat Clarke Scholes in the 100. George Park www.swimdownhill.com

I think you are 100% correct. People may look for a magic potion but the heart and will of the swimmer is more important.

Getting back to alcohol... A famous swim coach once told me that 1 to 1 and a half oz. of whiskey was a stimulant but if I had more before a race it would no longer be a stimulant. I was under age at the time and did not try it. George www.swimdownhill.com
