Workouts during Olympic Trials

Long Beach Swim Club has arranged for the use of 4 lanes at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool for Masters workouts throughout the Olympic Trials in Long Beach, CA. The workouts will be: Wed-Fri, July 7-9, from 5:30-7:00 a.m Sun, July 11, from 7:30-9:00 a.m. Mon-Wed, July 12-14, from 5:30-7:00 a.m. There will not be a pool workout on Saturday, July 10th, because there is a 2-mile ocean swim (USMS-sanctioned) from the Balboa Pier to the Newport Beach Pier. Entry information for the swimmers who may be interested in that can be found at www.newportlifeguard.org/.../oceanswims.htm, and the entry form at www.newportlifeguard.org/.../pier2pierburns04.pdf. Please note that the Pacific Ocean is not the warmest body of water. Ocean temperature at Newport Beach in mid-July usually ranges from 63 degrees to last year’s balmy 70 degrees. For those interested in the workouts (and/or the ocean swim), please e-mail Lucy Johnson at lucyj@uci.edu so we can get an idea of how many to expect. Because a number of guests to the Olympic Trials will be staying in downtown Long Beach (which is about 2 miles from Belmont Plaza) and will not have access to a car, please let Lucy know where you will be staying, and if you a) need transportation to the pool, or b) will have a car available and be able and willing to take other swimmers with you. Long Beach Swim Club has contracted with Belmont Plaza to cover the cost of the pool rental for the workouts, but a donation of up to $5.00 per person per workout to help defray the cost would be appreciated. If any Masters coach coming to the Olympic Trials would like to serve as a coach on deck for one or more of these workouts, please let Lucy know that also.
