on my own and bored

Does anyone else out there swim alone and not with a team? I have been doing this for about nine months now, and have used meets as the means of keeping me motivated. Now after Spring Nationals, I find that even trying to swim a mile three to five times a week tests my patience....I just get bored really quickly, and trips to the pool become less and less appealing. I'd like to return to 2 mile workouts to be in shape for some of the events I'd like to tackle at state next month - mainly distances over 50 and 100. This weekend I tried some 200 meter events and tired out too early. Any suggestions on how I can become a stronger swimmer, beat the boredom, and become more motivated? Thanks! Katherine

Once a month or so, a friend of mine and I get together for a workout. (We don't live close enough to swim together on a regular basis.) With that extra motivation I can usually swim faster and further. Sometimes I "compete" against people in other lanes that don't even know I am doing it!
