I have been out of the pool for 10 years, have gained a good deal of weight (50lbs). I really want to get back into distance swimming. But I'm not sure how I should start....
This is what I'm thinking so far:
If anyone has any suggestions or comments I would really appreciate it. My goal is to start competing in distance events again.
1-3 weeks:
Mon: easy pool work out
Tues:endurance weight training
Wed:Concentrated stroke technique pool work out
Thurs:endurance weight training
Fri:Med/Hard work out (time ints)
Sat:deck excercise/stroke technique
4-6 weeks
re-anaylize endurance and adjust time intervals
same as weeks 1-3
7-12 weeks:
re-analyize endurance/adjust time intervals
Increase yardage and work out duration
Mon:easy/med + deck workout
Wed:med/hard
Fri:Hard
Sat:deck/stroke

I should note the following:
1) I know how to swim, I know technique, I know drills, and I know equipement, I just don't know what my workout should look like at first.
2) There is no USMS team within 100miles of where I live (Rolla MO). So, I'm flying solo on this.
