Wow, what a meet!! Thanks to all those who organized, volunteered and officiated at this year's Nationals.....excellent job!! I'm just a 6,000 yards-a-week lap swimmer, without QT's, (but didn't want to miss this opportunity being so close to home) - and I never felt unwelcome at all, even though I couldn't hold a candle to the rest of my age group. I met some nice people, watched some awesome (Muhammad was SMOKIN!) and inspirational (our senior delegation - what a great group of people) swims. The fanfare before the Race Team's 50 free and especially the 50 fly, was very entertaining!! Hope Muhammad makes the olympics! This was the best meet I've ever attended and even though I didn't place, I did take home two PR's, an accomplishment long in coming! Thanks again Indy Swim Fit!!

Sorry to be the grumbler of this thread, but I was still put off by the number of empty lanes -- especially on Sunday. Mandatory check-in for all events is key -- it keeps the meet shorter (thus not having to deal with the issues of limiting number of events or enforcing cut-off times) and allows for full heats. Yeah, there are always issues to work out with technology for on-line check-in (we are in the 21st century however) and getting the heat sheets copied each night is a hassle (but Kinkos isn't that inconvenient -- it worked fine putting them out at the entrance at Tempe and Rutgers). But it is well worth the hassle to shorten the days for all of us (I know several folks who swam the first and last events on Friday -- 100 fly and 400 IM -- and they had a helluva long day). It is a shame to have to pick events based on how long the session is going to be rather than what you want to swim. I don't think we run the risk of having the meet run too fast! Efficiency doesn't take the fun out of it, and makes it nicer for us all.
