weight training and swimming ability

i had been doing high rep weight training for my shoulders chest and back, and found that even if I had a week or two out of the water, I could come back and not miss a beat. well, lately I've been missing my upper body weight training, and guess what?! dead fish. granted I'm getting more regular swims in now, but it just seemed like the weights gave me an advantage. anybody have any experience wiht this? (BTW, training for several tri's this summer...so bike and running mileage is signifigant per week) :D

Not knowing your age, weight , or what weight you use when you excerise. I would say to keep excerising with weights. but to stay away from heavy weights. stay with moderate weights. maybe 60% of your body weight. Also try free hand excerise. Such as chins dips pushups rope climbing etc. One important excerise is a must Ab work.:) ;)
