If I am reading this right, Swiminfo.com is reporting that Craig Stevens is indeed going to back out of the 400 and leave it up to Australia Swimming to "pick another member of the Olympic Team" to swim that race in Athens. If I am ANY other country, swimmer, the 3rd place finisher at the Trials or an organization interested in ethics, then I am raising a stink on this one!!!! Thorpe DQ'd and the Aussies are going to skirt the rule and get him in anyway. They would be relegated to the status of Ben Johnson, Rosie Ruiz, and the 60+% of MLB who are on steriods! This is FREAKIN' UNBELIEVABLE. I have no respect for any of the aforementioned and if this happens, none for Ian Thorpe and the Australian swim federation (or whatever official name they hide behind) are in that seeming, stinking pile.

Geek, I disagree! You asked what rule was being broke! Every swim meet has rules! The rules governing the start were broke by Thorpe at the qualifying meet for the 400 Free for the Olympics...thus, he should be ineligible for the 400 Free at the Olympics. That is the way it works for everyone else.. unless I am wrong! Have you ever been DQ'd? If so, were you allowed to continue on to the finals for that event? I don't think so!
And by the way, I have read every post through the whole thread.:D
I just disagree with your logic on this! He should not be allowed to swim the 400 free at the Olympics because he did not finish the race at qualifying! It should go to the next person in line. He should not even be considered for it...because of the DQ!
And I say go back to my post earlier about the definition of what Disqualification means and tell me how he has any right to swim the 400 in Greece!
