Psyche sheets are up from Men's Div I NCAA to be held the weekend of March 25th at the "Goodwill Games" Pool on L.I. You can check them out at: www.collegeswimming.com/ This year, they will compete SCM (as we discussed elsewhere our esteemed leaders decided not to compete LCM until more schools had 50 meter). The meters option is only for Olympic years. The meet is likely to produce a number of NCAA records and a few world records (relays and some standout individuals). Predictions for top five finish? Here's mine: 1) Auburn (Marsh accomplishes first back-to-back double/double) 2) Texas (proof that this is truly a team sport...you need more than 3 big horses to win) 3) Standford ("hollywood" of US swimming cannot win the big prize again) 4) California (the "other" bay area program with some truly incredible sprinters) 5) Florida (my heart's with Minn but have to pick the once again strong Florida program) BTW, Kenyon men win their 25th consecutive title--the most successful NCAA program ever. Only one close is the Kenyon women 20 out of 21 national titles and Auburn wins narrowly over Georgia.

Crocker just went :49.77 in the 100 FLY prelims New World Record!

Don't count out Bovell, either. He split a 46.5 in the relay last night! There are plenty of other guys who could take it, too, including Bousquet who won the 50 pretty convincingly.

Looks like Auburn got the title in hand. Now can Texas beat out Standford for second? Crocker...first man under 50 seconds for 100 meter fly or will he just repeat his long course performance and skip the 50s and go 49+. Crocker will be challenged in the 100 since this is a field with lot's of sprinters. Can he beat the "Croatian Comet" in the 100 free? I'm betting he get's his 4th 100 fly title but will lose out in the 100 free. Was also impressed that Marshall beat Peirsol in the 100 back. Fast meet.

Crocker...first man under 50 seconds for 100 meter fly or will he just repeat his long course performance and skip the 50s and go 49+. By his medley relay performance where he was faster than some of the freestylers at 48.62 I think he may go 49 low. His coach said he went out too fast in a 21.9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His splits of 21.9 and 26.72 indicated he went out WAY too fast and died a little bit. Say he goes out in 23.0 and comes back in 26.0, a 3 second difference is more like it. Sure would love to see that swim... 100 meters fly in 49!!!!!! Has to be a thing of beauty.
  • I'm a few days late on this, but just watched the tape of the women's meet last night. Tara Kirk is incredible. The women's breaststroke events at OTs should be very interesting! And boy did Coughlin die in the 200 back! Rowdy Gaines' commentary was right on, basically "wow, she really worked that third 50, will she be able to hold on?" Obviously the answer was no. Her last 50 was terrible. I was impressed with her positive demeanor when they interviewed her after that race later, though.

Unfortunately many guys chose not to taper for this meet. Man, does coach Marsh know how to teach sprinting. Texas was LOSING after the *** stroke leg with 2 World Record holders on the front. Didn't Bousquet go a 47.0 in the 100M free at World Champs this summer (on a relay)? I think his speed is for real. Needless to say I am disappointed that Crocker did not swim faster, though his fly was unbelievable. The 100 Free should be a great race. Bovell, Bouquet, Crocker could all break the current WR.

Crocker goes 46.25 erasing Popov's 46.74. Duje Draganja was also under Popov's old record with 46.64. www.swiminfo.com/.../7069.asp

Croker is really looking good. How many world records does this guy hold? Watching Crocker and Phelps battle in a few events should be fun. Hook'em Blue

Crocker 100 Fly... He set a world record today! But, did you notice the second and third guy, both from my old country! Milorad Cavic and Duje Draganja :) not too shabby! 46:25 - World record for Crocker in 100 free 46:64 - For Duje Draganja (finished 2nd) I think this kid is just getting strted! calbears.ocsn.com/.../draganja_duje00.html I know, I'm a little bit biased here ;)
