What is the fastest age for a swimmer(mine seems to be faster as i get older and yes i swam as a youngster...now im 37..)?

Well, maybe Scotty needs to beam up Ion to the Klingons. For a man who knows the French philosopher Descrate, he is obessed with swimming and swimming is a harsh mistress.

I push people's buttons but not first.
What did I do to this guy?

Also, I really wonder how spectacular his coaches are if, as Paul says, Euro's techique, diet, and mental prep are so horrendous? They must be glorified lifeguards who moonlight as masters "coaches" at $8/hour.
Also, watch for Connie stating earlier in this thread that she has no interest in the late bloomer discussion, but contradicting herself by participating anyway with noise -except for one valid input that she reported from a doctor- just to argue mindlessly.
Science, feel, science, feel, science, feel...you've got to feel the water, the movement, taste the water to get it Ion. Swimming is not only about the triglycerides and analysis. There is so much more that you just don't feeeeeellllllllllll. Go feel the water one day: just push off the wall in an empty pool, kick a little, skull a little, watch the water move around your fingers and hands. This is what it is about.

With Ion, there's no resolution.
How is this contradiction that you make when writing that you are not interested in a late bloomer discussion but participating later on anyway just to argue?
With Connie there is no resolution.

The comparisons with Connie are bad in a different way if I am remembering corectly. Didn't Connie say she has been swimming for a year or two as opposed to Ion who has been swimming for many years? Wouldn't that lead to a big difference too? I don't think that either of them swam as kids.
Yeah, I only started swimming this last July. I was about 40 pounds overweight and completely out of shape.
Nopw I'm only 20 poiunds overweight, and about 1/3 of the way getting into shape, so, I think my results are fantastic, considering the levet that I'm at for the moment.
Once I get to the best shape I can be in, I'll have Ion for breakfast! :p

Hey Connie-
You swim with Brian Godell-how awesome! One of my swimming heros growing up-gotta love those distance swimmers (well-most of them)! I think he still held a NAG record up until this year. Wish American dominance would return to the longer events, though I don't mind sharing with the Aussies. Europeans are another story.
Yeah, I swim with Brian...
Or should I say he leves me in the dust every morning ;)
I have to say, he is just a super nice guy!
Not a smidgeon of an attitute that you sometimes think superstars would have. Then again, everyone on my rteam is just great. They're becoming like an extended family to me...
And being that I don't have any family anywhere close, that's a really good thing for me.
Sometimes, when I'm due for a day off, or at the 2nd workout of the day, I still come to the pool sit and watch what he, and several other really great swimmers are doing... never hurts to learn.
If I remember right, one of Brians distance records stood for about 15 years!

Swampygeek - now that's funny, Ion. It's almost as comical as the alleged theories of V02Max and early bloomer you hold onto like a precious gem.
Just out of curiosity you've been asked a few dozen times in this thread to provide your own support and have yet to do so. When can we expect it? For the record, you can even include the conversation you had with a vet.
And, in response to what you will write back:
No, I don't swim the 1000 but might in the next few weeks.
No, I will not give you late bloomer names I swim with. In America we call that privacy. In your communist heritage it's referred to as mandatory.
Speaking of Ion not standing up and delivering...
i asked him to tell us the results he had after few months of swimming. He never stepped up to the plate to answer that question.
He usually clams up when he has nothing to show.
I'll have to search through his old meet results.

Thank you guys :D
All of you.
I think for the sake of the length of this trhread I shouldn't reply to each and every one of you who have been so kind to me here :)
I hop to meet you all in person, sooner or later... be it at nationals or or meets, wherever the opportunity presents itself.

Way to go. Be proud of what you have accomplished no matter what anyone else says. And look forward to everything else you will still accomplish in swimming.
I'm pretty much in the same boat - started last January - 34 years old, 5'9-1/2" (gotta get that 1/2" in there!:) ), 215lbs., spare tire. Now I am 35 years old, (still 5'9-1/2") but I go about 173lbs. Still have a spare tire - but now it is a spare tire for a Neon - instead of for an 18 wheeler! I may not be as fast as some of the others who post here, but I am faster than I was!:D
