No you didn't. Mentioning that there was a study, is not the same as listing the title, authors, journal, and publication date. (I would just settle for title and authors, at this point.)
Since this "fact" is so crucial to your theory, I thought you would be eager to display it, so that others will understand. Your reluctance to make the citation, and attempts to make it sound like you did, could lead to the conclusion that you are ducking the issue.
